"Having a place to live... ...helps my fears and gives me hope."
For twenty years, Anne was unable to obtain permanent housing due to mental illness, substance abuse and limited income. She began receiving daily services from A Place to Start (APTS), VSH's new "housing first" program. She now maintains an apartment and is continuing her journey of recovery.

New Clay House

Virginia Supportive Housing's first residence opened in 1992 to serve 47 single homeless adults. Initial investment in this first facility came from a variety of sources including individuals, corporations, private foundations, faith communities, government grants and Low Income Tax Credits. That year, Virginia Supportive Housing won the Governor's Housing Award for New Clay House.

New Clay House features 47 rooms for single adults who pay a minimum of $50, or 30% of their monthly income for rent. Support services are available to help tenants remaining in permanent housing, increasing their skills and income and achieving greater self determination.
